Sowing Rate
4-5 kg/haRainfall / Irrigation
350mm+Uplands is a fine leaved Mediterranean cocksfoot with high tiller density and a very high level of drought and cold tolerance. It is a winter active and partially summer dormant variety that persists well under grazing, producing a large bulk of high protein, high energy forage that is highly palatable.
Best adapted for sowing in low rainfall temperate areas, Uplands grows rapidly in autumn to late spring and is very tolerant of aluminium and acid soils.
Sowing rate:
4-5 kg/ha alone
2-4 kg/ha with early maturing sub clovers

This country is marginal perennial country, particularly with the seasons of the past few years - it has been hard to keep a perennial base, but the Uplands seems to be surviving and when we get the rainfall it thrives...because it is winter active (as opposed to the summer-active traditional cocksfoot varieties such as Porto) Uplands tends to shut down over summer, so it can hang on during the tough times.

Uplands cocksfoot has provided a great support to our grazing program. In a low rainfall and predominantly winter grazing environment, the introduction of Uplands cocksfoot has covered us through a normally difficult period where the oats and winter feed was otherwise very low.

Bernard is impressed with the semi-dormant Uplands Hispanic cocksfoot, not only for its fine soft leaves and palatability, but also its ability to provide green feed late in the spring and into summer depending on rainfall. By eliminating common type Australian phalaris from pasture mixes, and using the winter active phalaris varieties such as Advanced AT and Holdfast GT, the addition of Uplands Hispanic cocksfoot and Exceltas coloured brome has not only boosted winter feed production, but extended the feed supply later into the season.

SPS Equinewise® Brome Blend
The Brome blend is perfectly suited to the equine industry due to the grass species in this blend having exceptional tolerance to hard grazing. The main component is Exceltas coloured brome which is highly productive densely tillered winter active grass. It is combined with cocksfoot which is extremely persistent once established providing a strong grass base pasture through autumn, winter and spring. Lucerne and sub clover are also included in the blend to increase the quality. This blend is suited to free draining soils and will not tolerate low lying areas that wet during winter. These varieties are slower to establish so particular care must be taken at establishment stage.
